LIFE LESSON

Dear Friends,

MIND AND SOUND

Even at the cost of monotony, kindly permit me to repeat that many psychologists believe that humans are influenced by their thoughts only. Vedhas and ancient scriptures too say so. Man is the derivative of Mind. We become what we think.

Mind and thoughts need to be kept under control. Having tremendous power, thoughts can do wonders. Because negative thoughts can create disasters. As you sow so you reap is the best maxim.

Mind can judge well. On seeing some for the first time we get a nice warm feeling, whereas on meeting some we get exactly opposite feeling. Face is the index of mind is an old adage.
Our thoughts are based on what we listen or read or observe. The food we eat has an important role to play in moulding our thoughts. Many avoid consuming spicy foods like onion, garlic etc., as a result.

Like the stone thrown into a still pond, creating waves, a thought when entering the still mind creates vibrations. A pure thought is razor sharp and should be carefully handled.

Equally sound has a noticeable effect on human beings. Soft music, and mild low volume chanting sounds, devotional tunes, have magical effect on the mind.

'What is sound ?''

We know it is a vibration, creating energy as scientifically accepted and proved. The sound of breathing of the supreme soul Parmathma is the sound of Vedhas the source of life and its energy. In Yogas the main agenda is Pranayama, control of the vital force, breath.

Vedhas are known as ''sruthi'' drawn from the word ''strothra'' (ear). In villages we had Srothradhar, the person hearing complaints for remedial measures.

When we listen to chanting of vedhic mandhras and Parayana, we are refreshed and energized. So does melodious music impacting on people.

Chanting or listening tranquilises the mind, releasing mental stress.
