Chromepet is a busy place nowadays unlike what it was a decade ago when it was difficult to visit Hasthinapuram, and other places with lack of proper transport, and uneven roads. It involved a long walk from the railway station and many depended on their two wheelers, mostly bicycles.
Now with an overbridge, avoiding the railway crossing, many flats and tenements have sprung up. The old and new temples are catering to the needs of devotees of Saiva Vaishnava cults.
Today I had been to Anandha Vinayakar temple in Jothinagar, Chromepet travelling without bumps in an auto from railway station. The purpose was to meet Sri Raghuveera Bhattacharyar who is lecturing on Thiruppavai for 30 days from the beginning of Margazhi in that temple. Today the 20th day paasuram was ''Muppaththu moovar'' and for for nearly two hours he spoke beautifully on the pasuram giving it newer meanings to think and enjoy. Sri Raghuveera Bhattacharyar has a special inimitable skill to play pun on words like Ki.Vaa.Ja. and sings nicely sometimes quoting from old Tamil film songs to add spice to his talk, but to to the point.
I was asked to honour him and I distributed the new year calander of SREE KRISHNARPANAM SEVA TRUST for 2019 and a few books to those present today at the lecture hall. The 30 day Tiruppavai lecture program has been sponsored by Tirupathi Tirumala Devasthanam spread over nearly 200 temples. It is the good luck of the residents of Jothinagar that they have the opportunity to enjoy the interesting lectures of Sri Raghuveera Bhattacharyar.
