KRISHNA - 1.

KRISHNA - 1. - j.k. sivan

'KRISHNA'' is the watchword for many like me. A name well known globally. This Sanskrit word is spelt as '' Kṛṣṇa'' in many holy books. It means primarily an adjective meaning "black" or "dark". It also means and described as "all attractive".

Krishna is an avathar of Lord Vishnu. In Vishnu Sahasranamam Krishna is named as 57th Namam. Based on His Name, Krishna is often depicted as a Murthy of black color or blue-skinned.

Krishna is also known by various other names, epithets and titles, according to His leelas, experiences and as visualised by devotees. These names reflect His many associations and attributes.

Most common names of Krishna are Mohan "enchanter", Govinda, "Finder of the cows", or Gopala, "Protector of the cows", which refer to Krishna's Childhood in Braj (in present day Uttar Pradesh).

For example a distinct name may be regionally important; for instance, Jagannatha, a popular Incarnation of Puri, Odisha in eastern India.
