HANUMAN AT GUDUVANCHERI

The Navagraha Yoga Hanuman in Guduvancheri...
J. K. SIVAN .

Real Estate was once a flourishing business in big cities, particularly in and around Chennai, resulting in concentration of population in certain areas only creating all sorts of problems. Water shortage, too many vehicles with no parking space, price hike in certain basic commodities and what not.

Guduvancheri is one such satellite town near Chennai. It was a sleepy village till recently and picked up its share of real estate prospects. Many agricultural fields have now disappeared yielding place to rising flats with not much change in infrastructure like proper roads, street lights etc., Price of vacant plots had gone up beyond imagination, for no reason whatsoever, in various mushroom nagars. One such is Mahalakshmi nagar where I found the admixture of both village type houses still existing until some prospective real estate trader usurping them and newly constructed flats here and there. along with certain new colorful structures.

An old bearded man welcomed me and the group. It was an ordinary housing plot of about a ground or so, in which there is a sannidhi for Anjaneyar, Goddess Bhavani, a little space for the relaxing Ananthanarayanan, et al. This temple is not far away from the main GST Road and is closer to Nandivaram Sivan temple.

The bearded man invited us for Navarathri celebrations in this temple, and we took little Aiswarya who has a rich voice and promising voice. She has won prizes for her carnatic music vocal performances.

She sang about 10 selected songs. Sri Keeranur Ramamurthi who was with us spoke a few words having visited this temple at its inception and earliest kumbabishekam, before I took over and talked about the prowess and powers of goddess Durga Parameswari and Anjaneyar.

Now let me tell you about the Anjaneyar in this remote small temple. The Hanuman here is quite rare. He has Adiseshan over his head as an umbrella, has four hands, Chathurbujas, is a Trinethra, the three eyed, and his third eye on His forehead is visible when the Naamam (thiruman) plate is shifted aside. I remember having seen such a hidden third eye of Lord Narasimha at Singaperumal koil. The Hanuman has all the nine planets (nava grahas) all over Him, Rahu at the back, Kethu over His head, moon and saturn, sun, sukra, Angarakan et al at various parts of His huge body.

This Hanuman is known as ARULMIGU SRI THRINETHRA CHATHURBUJA, NAVAGRAHA YOGA ANJANEYAR. He is seated in a yoga posture with two hands in folded position on his lap. This temple is known as Sri Yoga Santhosha Peetam.

This temple came to be established purely through hard work and earnest efforts of the bearded man. He was once a Tamilnadu Govt Pallavan bus conductor and a devotee of Hanuman for long.

Oneday he had a strange dream in which Hanuman appeared showing His huge feet to the devotee. The urge for constructing a small temple somewhere for Him, compelled ''Maruthi Dasar'', the bearded man, the poorvasrama bus conductor, who recalls the miracle in acquiring a piece of land in Mahalakshmi Nagar, Guduvancheri. The temple was construted about ten years ago where Maruti Dasar lives in a small room. Slowly and steadily the sannidhis of Hanuman, Bhavani Amman, and a small sannidhi for Bala Sayana Ranganathan have all been constucted with public support and cooperation of devotees in and around Guduvancheri.

It may be interesting to note that Maruthi Dasar wears only a gunny cloth (jute bag material) instead of a dhoti and is breathing Hanuman always.

It is worth visiting this temple whenever you pass through Guduvancheri and have the divine dharshan of Sri Thrinethra Chathurbuja Navagraha Yoga Anjaneyar, a rare combination of power and divine love.
