6 BEWARE OF DESIRE
Most of you would have heard this popular Gita slokam
‘’paritraanaaya sadhuunaam vinaashaaya chadushkritaam |
dharma samsthaapanaarthaaya sambhavaami yuge yuge ||’’
It means, that Lord Krishna, would, for the protection of the good people, for the destruction of the evil ones and for the establishment of dharma (righteousness) would be born in in the world from age to age. It is composed as said by him, giving his personal guarantee.
Chapter 2, Verse 62 & 63 of Gita says :
dhyaayato vishayaanh pumsah sangasteshhupajaayate |
sangaath samjaayate kaamah kaamaath krodho abhijaayate 62
krodhaadbhavati sammohah sammohaatsmritivibhramah |
smritibhramshaadbuddhinaasho buddhinaashaatpranashyati 63||
It means that when a person dwells longingly on sense objects, an inclination towards them is generated. This inclination develops into desire and desire gives rise to anger. It is a dangerous infectious disease worse than Corona.
This sloka says further what happens once we yield to the ‘’desire ’’ and become ‘’angry’’ when disappointed. .From anger comes delusion; from delusion, confused memory; from confused memory the ruin of reason; from ruin of reason, man finally perishes.
Chapter 6, Verse 5
uddharedaatmanaatmaanam naatmaanamavasaadayeth |
aatmaiva hyaatmano bandhuraatmaiva ripuraatmanah ||
It is upto every person to elevate himself from the ordinary level to higher grades in life It does not refer to commercial or worldly development. Let a man raise himself by his own efforts spiritually on his progress to self realization.
Because a person's best friend or his worst enemy is none other than his own self.
