Dear Friends,
It is common knowledge that melodious music impacts people. When we listen to the chanting of vedhic manthras it producesbeneficial effects in people. How such vibrations influence the mindand body is mysterious and inexplicable. The listener's mind becomes tranquil, releases mentalstresses and helps to develop positive thoughts.
Complete control of the mind is ''conquering'' it. The mind then becomes the best friend. The uncontrolled mind as Gita says is the worst enemy. It behaves like the wandering and jumping monkey, disturbing a lot.
Maha Periyava used to say “The human mind can go astray to any length. Indeed itkeeps wandering aimlessly like a globin or an imp. Whatever the extent to whichcosmic life is orderly, it (the human mind) breaks free from all control andruns about like a mad dog''
Listen to this short story.
A man was caught stealing someone's money bag and handed to police. He was found to be a regular thief for a long time. He was produced before the judge in Court.
''Before I give my judgment do you want to say anything?'' asked the judge.
''Your honour! I plead guilty. I know I will be caught and punished. I only request that my mother should also have an equal share of the punishment ''
''why?'''
'In my childhood I used to enter neighbours houses and bring something from there and showed my mother. Everytime I did so, my mother felt proud of me and my ''feat'' thus encouraging my behaviour. If my mother corrected and punished me the first time I did it, I would not be standing before you.''
Children are moulded by parents and it is very important for parents to know this.
Knowing others is called ''intelligence'' but knowing yourself is ''wisdom''. Right from Gita to Socrates it is repeatedly being said ''Know thyself''.
