i have told about this incident sometime ago and yet it is worth repeating for the benefit of all, because the matter discussed and conveyed is worth another listening.
You may know about Pamban Swamigal, the saint devotee of Lord Muruga, He lived in Madras the then Chennai and His adhishtanam is here in Thiruvanmiyur.
Shashti the sixth day after every Pournami/Amavasya is an important day to worship Muruga. Shashti is 6, Muruga has six heads and the sacred Manthra to chant Him is six letered OM SA RA VA NA BA VA...
Swamigal was performing an akanda pooja and annadhanam. The devotees arranged for enough rice to be cooked for about one hundred people to be served food that day as annadhanam. Normally that was the expected crowd in their experience. But that day, people kept coming more and more and it was a miracle that the food cooked for about 100 became increasing to serve all numbering about 400 persons. Other than rice, naturally there was need for more vegetables and curry (sambar) and rasam to feed them. Everything was ready and the pots never got emptied.
All because of the Swamigal praying Him to help feeding His devotees.
One day Swamiji had a premonition of the death of his mother and elder son. He instructed his disciples, who were constantly near him, not to disturb him with any news or telegram which may come . It was exactly so as a telegram was addressed to him and the contents were not conveyed to the Swamiji. Swamigal was a true Sanyasi.
There is a village named Pinaththoor near Chidambaram in the South There were some staunch followers of Lord Vishnu who hated Swamiji because he was a Muruga Baktha, a saivite. Some bad persons among them organised a black magic spell on swamiji to kill him. The evil spirit sent to kill the Swamiji approached him.
Swamiji was able to identify it and its mission. He addressed it "I bear no ill will towards anyone and to the best of my knowledge have done nothing wrong towards anyone. If you are sent to destroy a bad person you may return to the person who guided you here. '' News came next day in Pinaththor that one person named Vinita had died suddenly/
Swamiji had to file cases for more than seven years against persons who had been spreading publications speaking ill of Lord Siva and all the devotees of Saivisam
Swamiji also filed cases for more than seven years against persons who hwere publishing and spreading news speaking ill of Lord Siva and Saivite devotees. He won in all the cases by His Grace. Books written and published by Swamiji on Lord Siva and Saivism were bought, collected and were burnt by the Vaishnavites.
The following final miracle ends this write up. In December 1923 Pamban Swami, while walking along at Thumbu Chetty Street in Madras. was accidentally hit by a speeding horse driven jatka and he fell down. His left ankle bone was broken. He was immediately taken to the government General Hospital opposite Central Railway station and admitted for surgery. The doctors who attended to the swamiji, felt his left leg crushed by the laden cart, needed to be amputated to save his life, and were readying for same to be done in the next couple of days.
Pamban Swami was simply praying to Lord Muruga accepting what befell him. "Let them do what they want to do."
News spread fast about swamiji and the accident. A devotee named Chinnaswami Josyar, who was an ardent disciple of the swamiji, that day began reciting without food and water, continuosly the Swamiji's composition ''Shanmuga Kavacham'' from morn to night. That night Chinnaswamy Josyar had a vision of Lord Muruga's spear, Velayudham, entering the left leg of Swamiji uniting the broken bits of ankle bones. Next day itself Swamiji was feeling no pain and started moving his leg normally. The British doctors who examined his leg, were astonished and described it as super natural and divine grace.
On the 11th day Pamban Swami saw two peacocks dance before him and also saw Lord Murugan as an infant lying next to his bed. In remembering the day Pamban Swami told his followers of the Maha Tejo Mandal Sabhai to believe in Lord Murugan and to perform Mayuravahana Sevai and celebrate it with annadhanam without fail. Pamban Swami's life proves this. " Velum Mayilum Thunai " (The spear and peacock save) is a not just a saying; it really saves and guards the sincere devotees in times of need.
Pamban Swami called Chinaswami Josyar, to search for a suitable land in Tiruvanmiyur as his last days were nearing. Pamban Swami measured and marked floor corners with his leg that portion of land to be purchased and all arrangement were made to purchase the land as desired.
On 30 May 1929 at 7:15 am Pamban Swami called his followers and advised them to always continue to worship Lord Murugan. Then he took a deep breath, held it inside his stomach and entered samadhi state.
