THINNAI RAMAYANA CHIRPI KEERANUR RAMAMURTHY IYER, -- J.K SIVAN
When I first met him personally, it was late in 2009, when I was the Secretary of the Senior Citizens' Forum, at Nanganallur.
Sri Keeranur Ramamurthi, a soft spoken Spiritualist, was blessed with a smiling face endearing everyone. He was a Patron member of the SCF and we became friends very soon and moved close with each other. I accompanied him to some of his discourses in and around Chennai. He used to ask me to sing the prayer song and I enjoyed his lectures which were very easy to follow, interspersed with day to day happenings in our life with plenty of advices for all family members.
He could not sing and did not quote from Sanskrit verses to supplement his talks whch was his grievance, but was quite interesting to listen, because of his sound kinowledge in Tamil literature.
He had a strict principle of not accepting even a pie from anyone for his discourses and lectures and spent himself for the transport to various places and even donated his mite, for noble causes.
He was very punctual for all his programs irrespective of the weather interruptions, and did not mind his physical inabilities because of his by diabetic, BP, heart problems.
He earned many titles during his career spanning almost to a decade and half, though he was popularly known as Thinnai Ramayana Chirpi, and his discourses on Mahabharatham, Ramayanam, on various Acharyas and Gurus etc., were commenced and concluded keeping to time. He never referred to any notes or books during his extempore lectures, with spontaneous anecdotes, irrespective of the number of audience present.
When we commenced Sree Krishnarpanam Seva Society he was a promoter member and we made him, President of SKSS unanimously which post he held till his demise on 3rd April 2018.
It is a great honour for SKSS to have published and released their 33rd publication ''KAMBAN KANDA RAMAN'' on 12th February 2018 at ''MIthila'' 17th street, Thillaiganga Nagar, Nanganallur, Chennai, 61, in which many Tamil scholars were invited and honoured and all those present were complimented with a free copy of the above book. In fact the above book release was combined with the celebration of the golden jubilee wedding anniversary of Sri Keeranur Ramamurthy. Unfortunately the health condition turned worse and Sri KR passed away on 3.4.2018 at his residence.
