SKST'S PRESENCE IN SIRKAZHI
Sabanayaka Mudhaliar (1859-1900) lived a short life of just 41 years but became immortal with his philanthropic deeds. He established a school for the locals during the British period when Christian school run by a Missionary was in and around Sirkazhi. He started a middle school in 1896 and within three years made it into a Higher Secondary School accommodating thousands of Hindu students at a very low admission fee affording them to have excellent disciplinary education based on our tradition, culture and Faith. He and his descendants are responsible for the development of the great Chola built temple of Siva in Sirkazhi. But for the huge strong compound wall all around the temple covering many acres would have been lost for us now in the two or three centuries in between and we owe gratitude to this philanthropic Thondaimandala Mudaliyar family.
On 4.9. 2018 the institution celebrated the Founder's day and invited me representing SREE KRISHNARPANAM SEVA SOCIETY, NANGANALLUR, to address the children and speak to them on their essential duties towards their parents, school and Society and self develop themselves. Sree Krishnarpanam Seva Trust, Nanganallur, conducted a quiz on Mahabharatha, one of the great epics of our nation and about 200 final students participated and were explained briefly about Mahabharatha and the role of the characters in it, especially Krishna. The happiness of the children in knowing about our epic and its immortal characaters reflected in their cheerful faces and keenness evidenced therein.
Prizes were given to the selected winners and others were given compliments. Teachers were requested to spare a few minutes in between their syllabus to coach and teach the students about learning our epics, holy texts and scriptures to enable the next generation to grow and develop responsible citizenry for posterity to adhere to become an organized religious people nation of service to humanity and fellowmen
